Version Specific Features
J-Chart/IB is an innovative analysis methodology and third-party software that integrates with Interactive Brokers'
Trader Workstation (TWS trading platform). This way, J-Chart/IB utilizes TWS's streaming data feed.
Important note: The following descriptions and directions assume that you have an established and funded trading
account with Interactive Brokers which will allow you to retrieve live data through TWS. If you do not have an IB
trading account set up you will not be able to use J-Chart/IB. Find more information about applying for an IB trading
account and the TWS software at www.interactivebrokers.com.
Interactive Brokers' service is independent from our service.
The following figure illustrates the technical structure.

J-Chart's integration with TWS's streaming data feed makes it an easy-to-go and fast charting tool especially suitable
for active day trading. At the same time, the received streaming data will be locally stored on your PC's hard disk. This
way, you are able to build up a "historical data base" for even medium- and long-term analysis.
Due to the given technical infrastructure (TWS simply provides live streaming data without backfilling), there are some
version specific limitations that you should be aware of. The following 3 recommendations will help you to avoid a loss of data:
- Run J-Chart (and TWS) every trading day. Being unconnected at any time when trading occurs results in a loss of data.
Open J-Chart (and TWS) every trading day at the beginning of the trading session in order to receive all streaming data
through IB's TWS. If you connect in the middle of the trading session, today's previous data will be missing for the rest
of the day.
- Use separate windows for each product. Switching between different products within one J-Chart window
results in a loss of streaming (intraday) data. If you want to watch and analyze different products at the same time, we
recommend you to open a separate window for each product.
- Perform intraday analyses of previous trading days before markets open OR use separate windows during
the trading session. Changing the date in the "date drop-down menu" from today's ongoing trading session to any previous
trading day results in a loss of streaming (intraday) data, as J-Chart/IB will be disconnected from TWS's streaming data
feed.
- Returning to the actual (live) trading session (setting the date back to today and clicking the reload button) results
in a TWS error message, as you were disconnected from the streaming data feed. Click "Ok" to close the error window.
- Find TWS on the taskbar and click the TWS symbol to enlarge the window.
- The TWS message "Accept incoming connection attempt?" appears. Click "Yes" to confirm the new connection attempt
and J-Chart/IB will be reconnected to TWS's streaming data feed again.

In order to avoid the loss of data and above described reconnection process, we recommend you to either watch previous
days' intraday action before markets open or use a separate window to do so during the live trading session.
Follow the 3 recommendations above to receive all data through IB's TWS. If you still experience a loss of intraday data,
on the next day (after 00:00:00 CST) you can use the Update function to retrieve and update the missing data of the previous
trading day(s).
